Softball Game Preview: Loyola Academy Ramblers vs. Montini Catholic Broncos

Loyola Academy is 2-8 against Montini Catholic since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Ramblers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Broncos at 4:45 p.m. Loyola Academy will be strutting in after a win while Montini Catholic will be coming in after a loss.

Loyola Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Maine South get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Saturday. The Ramblers have beaten the Hawks the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hawks has come to flipping the script.

Mary McQuillen looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Gwen Coleman and Emilia Bartholomew did most of the damage at the plate: Coleman scored four runs while going 3-for-4, while Bartholomew went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four runs gave Coleman a new career-high. Abby Murphy was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Loyola Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maine South struck out nine times.

Meanwhile, Montini Catholic lost 19-4 to Fenwick on Friday. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Friars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Loyola Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Montini Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

Loyola Academy might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Montini Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Ramblers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
