Basketball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Falls to Mountain Pointe in First Game of Season

Sunrise Mountain unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 67-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountain Pointe Pride on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Pride: they've now lost five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Sunrise Mountain lost, don't look at Carter Pendelton. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Steven Brown, who scored five points and five boards.

Justin Kimbrough went supernova For Mountain Pointe., shooting 50% from the field to rack up 20 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. The last time Kimbrough's shooting accuracy was this high was back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayvein Moody, who went 7-for-17 on his way to 17 points.

Mountain Pointe has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Sunrise Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 70-46 victory against Dobson on the 24th. As for Mountain Pointe, they have also already played their next contest, a 68-59 win against Notre Dame Prep on the 1st.
