Basketball Recap: Forest Lake Academy's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak at Home

Forest Lake Academy's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They snuck past the Elite Prep Academy Eagles with a 54-50 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Forest Lake Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Blake Bergherm, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 10 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Bergherm a new career-high in assists (three). Anthony Ledan also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Elite Prep Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kirk Duhaney, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Duhaney is becoming a predictor of Elite Prep Academy's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 4-2 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Sebastian Torres was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

Forest Lake Academy's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-13. As for Elite Prep Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.

Forest Lake Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Elite Prep Academy, they will face off against Melbourne Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
