Basketball Game Preview: McDonough Warhawks vs. Southwest DeKalb Panthers

Two dominant guards in Zion Greene and Jackson Ushery are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The McDonough Warhawks will be playing at home against the Southwest DeKalb Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. McDonough knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 20 contests -- so hopefully Southwest DeKalb likes a good challenge.

McDonough is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Cedar Shoals by a score of 74-64. Given the Warhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Jaguars are ranked 171st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Southwest DeKalb, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 60-53 win over Ware County on Wednesday.

McDonough better keep an eye on Messiah Mergan. He was instrumental in Southwest DeKalb's win, going 6-for-14 en route to 18 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kelvin Peek, III, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 12 points in addition to five boards and four blocks.

Southwest DeKalb has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points over those games. McDonough's victory bumped their record up to 23-5.
