Football Recap: Carlisle Drops Highest Score of Season Against Shelbyville

Carlisle scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 38-34 to the Shelbyville Dragons. The Indians gained 158 more yards on the day, but it was the Dragons that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Carlisle still got an impressive performance from Ivan Garza, who rushed for 122 yards and five touchdowns, and also picked up 66 receiving yards. Garza also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss). Another player making a difference was Joseph Mejia, who rushed for 123 yards.

Shelbyville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ronnie Williams led the charge by rushing for 197 yards and a pair of scores. Williams has been hot recently, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Gavin McDonald was another key player, throwing for 171 yards and three TDs.

Carlisle now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Shelbyville, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Carlisle and Shelbyville will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Indians see the field they'll take on Cayuga at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Shelbyville, their break will end when they face Garrison at 7:30 p.m. on October 10.
