Baseball Game Preview: Platte Valley vs. Palmyra Panthers

Platte Valley will venture away from home to square off against the Palmyra Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Platte Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Platte Valley took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Mount Michael Benedictine, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Platte Valley narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Mount Michael Benedictine 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Platte Valley has posted since March 26th.

Carson Hollst spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Platte Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Kauffman, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Fairbury hit Palmyra with a 12-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers lost 18-4 to the Jeffs.

Platte Valley's victory bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Palmyra, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.
