Basketball Recap: Buna Takes a Loss

Buna suffered their biggest defeat since December 20, 2024 on Friday. They had to suffer through a 65-32 loss at the hands of the Kountze Lions. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 583rd, while the Lions are ranked 164th).

Despite the loss, Buna had strong showings from Kaleigh Humble, who posted ten points and six rebounds, and Jaiden Epps, who had eight points along with six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Humble a new career-high in points.

Buna's defeat dropped their record down to 19-12. As for Kountze, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.

Buna will host Hardin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kountze, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Kountze Lions duke it out with the Anahuac Panthers at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Anahuac: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Kountze has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
