Baseball Game Preview: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans vs. Phoenix Country Day Eagles

The Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Phoenix Country Day Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Scottsdale Preparatory Academy turned things around against Madison Highland Prep on Thursday. They blew past the Heat 6-0. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Sehaj Malhi made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Malhi wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Holwerda, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. The dominant performance also gave Holwerda a new career-high in RBI (two).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Phoenix Country Day). They came out on top against Arizona Lutheran Academy by a score of 10-7 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Jack Whalen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Reed Ross, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Phoenix Country Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's record is now 6-7. As for Phoenix Country Day, their record now sits at 8-6.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy couldn't quite get it done against Phoenix Country Day when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
