Boys' Basketball: Barber Brothers Turning it Up

Tiki and Ronde aren't the only Barber brothers in the sports world. Wyandanch's Chris and Cameron Barber have quickly become a powerful one-two punch for the Indians, a favorite in New York's Class B.

Chris, a senior, and returning Newsday Suffolk County Player of the Year, scored 46 points last week (27 against Hampton Bays and 19 against Southampton), while younger brother Cameron scored 40 in the same week (19 against Hampton Bays and 21 against Southampton).

This is the first year both brothers have been able to play on the same school-related team. Chris was involved in off-the-court problems which kept him out of school, but this year he feels the brother tandem can lead Wyandanch (6-0) to the promise land.

In the Clutch

Port Jefferson's Trevor Parker threw up a long three-point shot against Babylon (3-2) with 46 seconds left, sending his team in the right direction for victory. Port Jeff (3-2) won, 59-49.

Centereach's Dominick Duncan hit a shot in the paint with six-tenths of a second remaining against West Babylon for a 59-57 win in League III. Duncan had 18 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter.

Andrew Beinert did it again for Chaminade. The Holy Cross-bound senior nailed a 15-foot shot as time expired for the Flyers (2-1) in their 46-44 win over Long Island parochial rival St. Anthony's (1-3). Beinert finished with 25 points.

Girls' Basketball: 500th Win for Wyandanch's Warren Fuller

If you look at the game's score you'd think it was just another typical Wyandanch victory, but the significance for head coach Warren Fuller was much more important.

Fuller recorded career win No. 500 as the lady Indians beat Hampton Bays, 71-33, improving to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in League VII.

Fuller is 500-146 in his 29 years at the helm.

Garden City's Sparacia Gets Milestone Victory

Garden City's 53-42 win over Manhasset was career win No. 100 for head coach Anthony Sparacia.

Chisholm Blocking with the Best

Everyone knows North Babylon's Chanel Chisholm is a dangerous shooter and can rebound well, but when she recorded 10 blocked shots against Hills West in a 63-42 win last week, she put a cherry on top of an already perfect and tenacious style of play.

Calhoun Wins on Free Throw

Megan Vasquez stood at the foul line with the game's fate in her hands. She let go and sunk a free throw to beat Uniondale, 46-45. This, after she hit a three-point shot as time expired and was fouled from beyond the arc.

Milestone for Lelchuk

Great Neck South senior Colette Lelchuk scored career point No. 1,000 against Seaford in a 56-41 win. She finished the game having scored 1,016 career points and is the third female in school history to reach the plateau.

Girls' Track: Bay Shore Finishes Second at Armory

Bay Shore finished second behind Section I's New Rochelle at the Stanner Games, an indoor event put on by Archbishop Molloy.

Senior Callie Hogan won the 1,000-meter race (2:53.81), with the second fastest time for a Long Island girl this season. Junior Sarah McCurdy won in the 600-meter race (1:34.43).

Boys' Swimming: Catano Breaks Record

Connetquot sophomore Alberto Catano swam the 100-yard backstroke in 55.35 seconds, a school record. The Thunderbirds went on to beat Hauppauge 93-90 at the meet.

Boys' Bowling: Roca Really Rolling

Sewanhaka freshman Josh Roca rolled a 300 in consecutive games, marking the third time he reached the number this season. Sewanhaka beat North Shore 1,036-732, 819-863, 751-701, and Roca had a streak of 29 straight strikes at one point.

Other 300 Bowlers

Sachem East's junior Steve Ammirati bowled the third 300 game of his career, while Rocky Point sophomore Darren Andretta rolled a 300 against Mt. Sinai.
