Football Recap: Riverside Comes Up Short + How To Watch

After flying high against Wade Hampton last Friday, Riverside came back down to earth. The game between the Warriors and the James F. Byrnes Rebels didn't end well, with the Warriors falling 42-27. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Rebels are ranked tenth).

When it comes to explaining why Riverside lost on Friday, don't look at Gideon Merhib. Despite the final result, he rushed for 72 yards and one TD on only eight carries, and also threw for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Tre Segarra had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 169 yards and two scores while picking up 8.9 yards per carry for James F. Byrnes. Those 169 rushing yards gave Segarra a new career-high. Jackson Buckley was in the mix too, providing James F. Byrnes with two touchdowns.

Riverside's record now sits at 2-4. As for James F. Byrnes, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Riverside will welcome Eastside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for James F. Byrnes, they are taking a road trip to take on Gaffney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Segarra and Josiah Hill.
