Softball Game Preview: Marion County Warriors vs. Signal Mountain Eagles

The Marion County Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Signal Mountain Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Marion County has four straight victories, Signal Mountain has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Wednesday, Marion County got the win against Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences by a conclusive 13-2. Considering the Warriors have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Marion County got a massive performance out of Reese Saylors, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Pryor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Marion County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Signal Mountain fell victim to Walker Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 9-0. The shutout was out of character for the Eagles seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

The win got Marion County back to even at 10-10. As for Signal Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Marion County came out on top in a nail-biter against Signal Mountain when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 13-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
