Basketball Recap: Trinity Lutheran Takes a Loss

After soaring to 64 points the game before, Trinity Lutheran was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were dealt a 54-27 defeat at the hands of the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Vikings are ranked 133rd).

Despite the loss, Trinity Lutheran had strong showings from Gage King, who posted four points and three blocks, and Reed Mellencamp, who had five points.

Leading Tippecanoe Valley to victory were Ian Cooksey and Stephen Akase. Cooksey went 8 of 18 on his way to 21 points, while Akase dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. That's the most points Cooksey has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Blain Sheetz, who put up nine points and seven rebounds.

Trinity Lutheran now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Tippecanoe Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Trinity Lutheran didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-56 defeat against Hamilton Heights on the 28th. As for Tippecanoe Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-56 victory against Cascade on the 27th.
