Softball Game Preview: Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils vs. Oneonta Redskins

The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Oneonta Redskins at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mortimer Jordan was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Hayden 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since February 14th.

Alyssa Hays A. spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mortimer Jordan got a big performance out of Amber Williston, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Williston launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Liveoak, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Mortimer Jordan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hayden only posted a batting average of .267.

Meanwhile, Oneonta was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Kate Duncan Smith DAR.

Oneonta saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexie Jackson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Millie Simmons was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Mortimer Jordan is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. Oneonta's record now sits at 5-6.
