Baseball Game Preview: Douglas Byrd Eagles vs. Cape Fear Colts

Douglas Byrd hasn't had much luck against Cape Fear recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will head out to face off against the Colts at 6:00 p.m. Douglas Byrd has given up an average of 23.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Douglas Byrd is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 34th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They lost 23-0 to Gray's Creek.

Meanwhile, while Cape Fear put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Seventy-First. The Colts were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Colts have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Brycen Talley was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Serbio, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

Cape Fear always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seventy-First only posted an OBP of .222.

Cape Fear is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Douglas Byrd, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Douglas Byrd suffered a grim 29-0 defeat to Cape Fear when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
