Softball Recap: Shelley Comes Up Short

While it was Shelley who put the first runs on the board on Saturday, it was Idaho Falls who put up more. The Russets fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-3. The Russets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 14-10.

Macie Winder put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.

Winder wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carlie Hurd, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Hurd has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Shelley and nudges their season record down to 12-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-6 Bonneville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.9% over those games). As for Idaho Falls, they pushed their record up to 10-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Coincidentally, Shelley and Idaho Falls will both be playing Bonneville the next time they take the field. The Russets will head out to face the Bees at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Tigers will head out to face them at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
