Volleyball Recap: Organ Mountain Takes Down Ranked Mayfield

Organ Mountain faced Mayfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Knights won by a set and slipped past the Trojans 3-2. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Organ Mountain was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (109-108), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 19-25, 27-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13.

Organ Mountain had a senior duo take command as Alexa Edmonson had 15 digs and two aces and Leah Melero had 15 digs. Those 15 digs set a new season-high mark for Melero. Lacie Sandoval also deserves some recognition as she had her first dig of the season.

When it comes to explaining why Mayfield lost, don't look at Alexa Chavez. Despite the final result, she had 33 digs and six assists. Chavez is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Savannah Marquez was another key player, getting 21 digs and one assist.

Organ Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Mayfield, they moved to 15-8 with that loss, which also ended their three-match winning streak.

Looking ahead, Organ Mountain will square off against Los Lunas at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mayfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
