Softball Recap: Vancleave Comes Up Short

Vancleave came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the East Central Hornets by a score of 4-2 on Friday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 27, 2024, but that streak is no more.

Brooklyn Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits.

At the plate, Bailey Ross and Hadleigh Hall did some serious damage despite the final result: Ross scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Hall went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Vancleave's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for East Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vancleave will head out to challenge Wayne County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Central, they will venture away from home to take on Greene County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
