Basketball Recap: Coby Sykes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastern Greene over Sullivan

Eastern Greene lost against Sullivan back in November of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds received a blow as they fell 67-53 to the Golden Arrows. The Thunderbirds were down 51-27 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Several Thunderbirds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Coby Sykes, who posted 15 points and six boards. The matchup was Sykes' fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Callison, who shot 46% from the field on his way to 16 points.

Sullivan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paul Ridgway, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Ridgway a new career-high in shooting accuracy (69%). Another player making a difference was Cooper Bock, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 16 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Having lost for the first time this season, Eastern Greene fell to 3-1. As for Sullivan, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Eastern Greene has already played their next contest (against North Knox), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Sullivan, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Parke Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on the 19th.
