Baseball Recap: Maplewood Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Maplewood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Lordstown Red Devils. That's more bragging rights for the Rockets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kale Calvert tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Maplewood got a big performance out of Gabe Erwin, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Gavin Clower was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Maplewood's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Lordstown, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coincidentally, Maplewood and Lordstown will both be playing Chalker the next time they take the field. The Rockets will head out to face the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Red Devils will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
