Softball Recap: Greenon Knights vs. West Jefferson Roughriders
Greenon had lost five straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 6-15 to make it six. They lost 22-6 to the West Jefferson Roughriders. If the Knights were looking for revenge after losing 13-2 to the Roughriders when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for West Jefferson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.
For West Jefferson's part, they let Jenna Mannon and Mia Burgett run wild. Mannon went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Burgett went 2-for-4 with six stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those six stolen bases gave Burgett a new career-high. Sloan Thompson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Greenon has already played their next game, a 10-7 defeat against West Liberty-Salem on the 6th. As for West Jefferson, they will head out on the road to take on Hayes at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Roughriders 2.8, the Pacers 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
