Baseball Recap: Clearwater Central Catholic Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Clearwater Central Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Owensboro Red Devils. The result was nothing new for the Marauders, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Cooper Riley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Roman Petruccelli looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Dylan Monile was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Clearwater Central Catholic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Heintz, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Clearwater Central Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Clearwater Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Owensboro, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-6.

Coming up, Clearwater Central Catholic will welcome St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Owensboro, they will head out on the road to face off against Pinellas Park at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.11 runs per game on average), something the Red Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
