Baseball Recap: Manteo Has No Trouble Against First Flight

Manteo hadn't done well against First Flight recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Manteo was the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over First Flight. Considering the Redskins have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Drew Brown's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Landon Saywer was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Manteo's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Austin Godfrey, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Manteo has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. First Flight's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Manteo beat First Flight by a score of 17-8 on Friday.
