Softball Recap: Saratoga Beats Santa Cruz for Their Sixth Straight Win

Saratoga had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Santa Cruz Cardinals. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by eight runs or more this season.

Saira Ramakrishnan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, scoring a run while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sydney Riera and Jemma Tsang did most of the damage at the plate: Riera went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Tsang scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most hits Riera has posted since back in May of 2024. Alyssa Tham was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Saratoga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Saratoga's record now sits at 8-1. As for Santa Cruz, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saratoga will face off against Santa Clara at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Saratoga's pitchers better be ready for this one: Santa Clara has averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Santa Cruz, they will take on Aptos at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
