Football Game Preview: Troup Tigers vs. New Diana Eagles

The Troup Tigers will head out to face off against the New Diana Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Troup will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Troup's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Winona 60-0. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five games by 36 points or more so far this season.

Josh Childress and Brett Wells were among the main playmakers for Troup as the former threw for 296 yards and three TDs while completing 81% of his passes and the latter rushed for 158 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries. Childress got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 59 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Troup was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 334 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, New Diana's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 28-21 to West Rusk.

Troup's record now sits at 7-0. As for New Diana, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Troup suffered a grim 35-11 defeat to New Diana when the teams last played back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Eagles' Dejuan Johnson, who rushed for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 98 yards and one TD.
