Basketball Game Preview: Central Spartans vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

The Central Spartans will take on the Steele Canyon Cougars in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central will be strutting in after a victory while Steele Canyon will be coming in after a loss.

Central will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Holtville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Central really took it to Holtville for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-7 win. With the Spartans ahead 30-1 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Central found their leader in sophomore Victoria Zamora, who posted 21 points and three steals. Janelle Thomas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Steele Canyon took on Morse on Saturday. Steele Canyon fell to Morse 45-41. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.

Central's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Steele Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Steele Canyon in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, sneaking past 48-45. Will Central repeat their success, or does Steele Canyon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
