Wheatland hasn't had much luck against Sutter recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Wheatland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13 runs per game this season.
Wheatland had been on a 12-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Durham put an end to it on Monday. The Pirates lost 16-2 to the Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pirates have suffered since March 8th.
Tatum Sousa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Sutter came out on top against Woodland on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Huskies blew past the Wolves 10-1. The Huskies not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 15-0).
Izabella Pacheco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Liliana Speakman was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Paytyn Schamanski was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
Sutter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. They are 9-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Sutter has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Wheatland, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wheatland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .426. However, it's not like Sutter struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
