South Sumter hasn't had much luck against Eustis recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The South Sumter Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Eustis Panthers at 7:00 p.m. South Sumter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Eustis will be up against a hot South Sumter squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. South Sumter came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against The Villages Charter.
Raven Parker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, South Sumter saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Hickman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Eustis unfortunately witnessed the end of their 18-game winning streak dating back to last season on Tuesday. They fell 4-0 to Wakulla. The match marked the first time this year in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Carson Roden was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits.
South Sumter's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Eustis, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Sumter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eustis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
