Recap: Brunswick Academy Vikings vs. Wake Prep Academy Guardians
The Brunswick Academy Vikings's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with a 49-41 win over Wake Prep Academy. Given Brunswick Academy's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 153rd in Virginia, while Wake Prep Academy is ranked 533rd in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brunswick Academy was led to victory by Lexi Howerton and Emily King. Howerton scored 16 points along with nine rebounds, while King dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which King has scored at least 25% of Brunswick Academy's points. Haley Reese was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Wake Prep Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Langton, who scored 18 points. The contest was Langton's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chelsea Lange, who scored 12 points.
Brunswick Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Wake Prep Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
After both having extra time off, Brunswick Academy and Tidewater Academy will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Wake Prep Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Woods Charter at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Woods Charter is on a four-game streak of home losses, Wake Prep Academy a nine-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
