Basketball Recap: Wyatt Leigh's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Freedom Prep Academy over Vanguard Academy

Freedom Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They fell 68-60 to the Vanguard Academy Knights. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 62-28 on January 9th.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Wyatt Leigh, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jonas Sosa, who posted 18 points.

Vanguard Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Abel Jenkins out in front who went 7 of 15 en route to 19 points and four steals. Ben Kingston was another key player, going 7 for 10 on his way to 17 points and three steals.

Freedom Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Vanguard Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.

Freedom Prep Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 79-29 defeat against Draper APA on the 30th. As for Vanguard Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge American Prep WV at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. American Prep WV knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Vanguard Academy likes a good challenge.
