Basketball Game Preview: Wellington Dukes vs. Monroeville Eagles

The Wellington Dukes will venture away from home to square off against the Monroeville Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Wellington is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Firelands just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 45-29 to the Falcons. The game marked the Dukes' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Wellington's loss came about despite a quality game from Brooke Lehmkuhl, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Lehmkuhl is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, Monroeville entered their tilt with Plymouth on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took down the Big Red 54-35.

Monroeville's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Wellington, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.

Wellington came up short against Monroeville in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 45-41. Can Wellington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
