Basketball Recap: Patuxent Panthers vs. Calvert Cavaliers
The Patuxent Panthers can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 35-34 victory over Calvert. That's another feather in the cap for Patuxent, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Patuxent's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ailish Fockler led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Brooke Domonkos was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Calvert saw an underclassman step up: Brooke Kidwell dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Kidwell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Graham, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Patuxent's victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-13. As for Calvert, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-15.
Patuxent will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Maryland (La Plata is ranked 249th, while the Panthers are ranked 251st). As for Calvert, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cougars at 5:30 p.m.
