Basketball Recap: Northwest Halifax Comes Up Short

After flying high against Rocky Mount Prep on Friday, Northwest Halifax came back down to earth. The Northwest Halifax Vikings had to suffer through a 74-22 loss at the hands of the Garner Trojans.

Northwest Halifax's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keyara Rook, who posted 13 points. That was a full 59.1% of Northwest Halifax's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tatyanna Mcgee, who put up seven points.

Garner's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sumayah Jones, who went 12 for 18 on her way to 29 points and six rebounds. Those 29 points gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniyah Williams, who went 9 of 14 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards.

Northwest Halifax now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Garner, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Northwest Halifax wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 69-50 defeat against North Edgecombe on the 7th. As for Garner, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-46 victory against Fuquay - Varina on the 7th.
