Basketball Recap: Sunshine Bible Academy Comes Up Short

Sunshine Bible Academy lost against Highmore/Harrold back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders were dealt a 50-20 defeat at the hands of the Highmore/Harrold Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Pirates are ranked 47th).

Despite the loss, Sunshine Bible Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ciera Mickelson posted eight points and three steals. Mickelson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Breanna Thieman also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Sunshine Bible Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Sunshine Bible Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Highmore/Harrold, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Sunshine Bible Academy will square off against Iroquois/Lake Preston at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Sunshine Bible Academy is facing Iroquois/Lake Preston at the right time seeing as Iroquois/Lake Preston is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Highmore/Harrold, they will challenge Hitchcock-Tulare at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
