Leonardtown took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Great Mills Hornets 22-1. The victory was nothing new for the Raiders as they're now sitting on seven straight dating back to last season.
Vanessa Brooks and Tessa Gray did most of the damage at the plate: Brooks went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Gray scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Gray a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Insley, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Leonardtown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Great Mills only posted an OBP of .316.
Great Mills' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Leonardtown has already played their next game, a 14-0 win against Crofton on the 22nd. As for Great Mills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-4 loss against North Point on the 25th.
