Basketball Recap: Chandler Skates Past Queen Creek with Ease

There's no place like home for Chandler, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They breezed by the Queen Creek Bulldogs to the tune of 71-16 on Friday. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Chandler's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markayla Shirley, who went 7 for 8 on her way to 21 points. With that strong performance, Shirley is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Karis Hurd was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points.

Despite the loss, Queen Creek saw an underclassman step up: freshman Amaya Rodgers posted 13 points. That was a full 81.3% of Queen Creek's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Chandler pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 40 points. As for Queen Creek, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Chandler wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 71-17 victory against San Luis on the 16th. As for Queen Creek, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Red Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
