Basketball Recap: Unalaska Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Unalaska unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They were beaten by the Seward Seahawks 60-16. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Seahawks are ranked sixth).

Ava Jagielski continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Seward, putting up 11 points along with ten assists and ten boards. Jagielski is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Grace Fleming, who shot 75% from the field on her way to 14 points.

Unalaska's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Seward, the victory (which was their 23rd in a row) raised their record to 23-2.

Unalaska wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 38-35 win against Lumen Christi on the 7th. As for Seward, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 32-18 victory against Susitna Valley on the 7th.
