Basketball Recap: Justice Hegwood's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Central Academy over Anson

Central Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 38th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost to the Anson Bearcats at home by a 49-35 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 44-26 back in January.

Central Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justice Hegwood, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That was a full 45.7% of Central Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Anson was led to victory by Za'Kiah Hixson and Layla Britt. Hixson went 9 of 21 on her way to 24 points and five steals, while Britt scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those five boards gave Britt a new career-high. Komoria Chambers was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 rebounds.

Central Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Anson, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-10.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Parkwood the next time they take the court. Central Academy will host Parkwood at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Anson will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
