Softball Recap: Roxana Comes Up Short

Roxana extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They came up short against the Freeburg Midgets, falling 23-7. The Shells were not able to make up for their loss to the Midgets from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Lilli Ray made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Ava Cherry was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

As for Freeburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

On Freeburg's side, Katelyn Whitworth was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four runs gave Whitworth a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Waeltz Aubrey, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five RBI and three runs.

Coming up, Freeburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Belleville West at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roxana will be paying especially close attention to the Midgets' game: after the Midgets face off against the Maroons, they'll take on Roxana again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
