Soccer Game Preview: Lipscomb Academy vs. Overton

The Lipscomb Academy Mustangs will face off against the Overton Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lipscomb Academy's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for eight straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Lipscomb Academy came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Montgomery Bell Academy, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, Lipscomb Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee soccer rankings (they are ranked 190th, while Montgomery Bell Academy are ranked eighth).

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Overton was not quite Cane Ridge's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell 2-0 to the Ravens.

Overton's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 1-1-1 and their overall record down to 3-4-4. As for Lipscomb Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Lipscomb Academy suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Overton in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
