Baseball Recap: Palma Wins Going Away Against Carmel

Carmel typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Palma proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Padres. The Chieftains might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.

Alan Gonzalez made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, firing off three home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-3. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Serrano, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Rocco Razzeca was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Palma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Palma and bumps their season record up to 15-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Carmel, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6.

Palma will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Padres: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
