Football Recap: San Joaquin Memorial Comes Up Short on the Road Against Clovis North

San Joaquin Memorial kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a blow against the Clovis North Broncos, falling 42-14. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

San Joaquin Memorial's loss came despite strong showings from John Mahoney and Colton Johnson. Mahoney picked up 67 receiving yards and two scores, while Johnson threw for 121 yards and one touchdown on only 11 passes.

Clovis North's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but J R Cruz led the charge by rushing for 155 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. Lucas Smith was another key player, throwing for 251 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.

San Joaquin Memorial didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 27-25 victory against Christian Brothers on the 29th. As for Clovis North, they have also already played their next contest, a 38-34 win against Redwood on the 29th.
