Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mt. Vernon won against Cahokia on Friday with 64 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. The Rams managed a 64-59 victory over the Marshall County Marshals. For the Rams, this counts as revenge for the 53-42 win the Marshals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2025.

Mt. Vernon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Barnes, who shot 67% from the field en route to 21 points. The game was Barnes' sixth in a row with at least 18 points. Eli Prost was another key player, putting up 12 points.

The win was the third in a row for Mt. Vernon, bringing their record up to 20-7. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. As for Marshall County, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will welcome Althoff Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Marshall County, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Graves County at 7:30 p.m.
