Baseball Preview: Columbia Crimson Tide vs. Solanco Golden Mules
The Columbia Crimson Tide will square off against the Solanco Golden Mules at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Columbia has four wins dating back to last season, while Solanco has five dating back to last season).
Columbia lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Garden Spot, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's matchup. Columbia blew past Garden Spot 9-1 on Wednesday.
Peyton Gilbert made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Columbia got a big performance out of Chase Marley, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Evan Mummaw was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Columbia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garden Spot only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Solanco sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Annville-Cleona on Wednesday.
Lucas Vilk was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Herr, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Columbia's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Solanco, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
