Football Recap: Atina Acosta's Menacing Defense Leads Countryside over Pasco

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Countryside had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Pasco Pirates a 47-0 shutout. Considering the Cougars have won six games by more than 21 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Countryside didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Atina Acosta, Genessis Godinez-Gomez, and Nyarai Wilson picked up one apiece. Wilson also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 15. Godinez-Gomez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The victory made it two in a row for Countryside and bumps their season record up to 9-6. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for Pasco, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Countryside will face off against River Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Royal Knights' defense has only allowed 14.2 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them. Pasco does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
