Baseball Recap: Hattiesburg Finds Home Field Redemption Against Moss Point

There's no place like home for Hattiesburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on Moss Point with a sharp 14-2 victory on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Hattiesburg also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Corey McDonald spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024.

On the hitting side, Joe Polk was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyler Weatherspoon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Hattiesburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Hattiesburg pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Moss Point, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-4 record.

Hattiesburg wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 13-0 victory against Lumberton on the 1st. Moss Point has also already played their next game (against Pascagoula), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
