Basketball Recap: Niles North Comes Up Short

Niles North was the 40-33 winner over Deerfield when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Niles North Vikings lost 57-35 to the Deerfield Warriors on Tuesday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Deerfield was led to victory by Shir Paz and Eve Engler. Paz dropped a double-double with 26 points and 11 boards, while Engler posted 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Deerfield is 5-2 when Paz posts ten or more boards, but 2-20 otherwise. Crystal Varga was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Niles North's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Deerfield, their victory ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-22.

Niles North has already played their next game, a 37-28 defeat against Reavis on the 15th. As for Deerfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-41 loss against Wauconda on the 18th.
