Basketball Recap: Ashley Beats St. Pauls for Their Fifth Straight Win

While Ashley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They took down the St. Pauls Bulldogs 63-46 on Wednesday. Given the Screaming Eagle's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 448th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ashley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cole Lewis, who went 6 of 7 en route to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Keyon Jones, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and eight rebounds.

Despite the loss, St. Pauls still got an impressive performance from Donel Thomas, who posted 11 points. The dominant performance gave Thomas a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tykeem Oxendine, who had eight points.

The win (which was Ashley's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for St. Pauls, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Ashley will host Laney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Laney is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season. As for St. Pauls, they will head out to challenge Red Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
