Baseball Game Preview: Plano Reapers vs. Woodstock Blue Streaks

For the second straight game, Plano will face off against Woodstock. The Reapers will host the Blue Streaks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Plano nor Woodstock made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Reapers walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Blue Streaks. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Reapers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jackson Gates was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jason Phillips, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Josh Stellwagen, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Woodstock has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Plano, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-13.

Plano's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Reapers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Woodstock, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Plano continue to outrun the ball?
