Volleyball Preview: Gunnison Cowboys vs. Rye Thunderbolts

The Gunnison Cowboys will venture away from home to take on the Rye Thunderbolts at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Gunnison is headed into the matchup having just posted their biggest victory since September 5th on Thursday. Everything went their way against Olathe as Gunnison made off with a 3-0 win.

One reason for the win was Gunnison's dynamic defense, which allowed fewer and fewer points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-10, 25-9.

Gunnison's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sienna Gomez led the charge by getting seven kills, four aces, and three digs. Gomez is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted nine or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Kathryn Frey, who had six digs, five kills, and two blocks.

Gunnison was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Olathe only served five.

Meanwhile, Rye made easy work of Peyton on Friday and carried off a 3-0 victory.

Rye never let Peyton on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-22, 25-20.

Gunnison's record is now 9-2. As for Rye, their record now sits at 7-3.
