Baseball Game Preview: Rodriguez Mustangs vs. Oakland Tech Bulldogs

The Rodriguez Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Oakland Tech Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Oakland Tech will be up against a hot Rodriguez squad: the team just extended their winning streak to eight. The Mustangs put the hurt on Vacaville with a sharp 13-3 victory on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Mustangs have posted against the Bulldogs since April 26, 2022.

Rodriguez got a great performance from Nick Schikore as he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Schikore has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Beasley, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean O'Connell, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Rodriguez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oakland Tech). Everything went their way against Fremont on Wednesday as they made off with a 20-9 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.

Rodriguez pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Oakland Tech, their record is now 12-7.
